about
Echo is the debut single by Nicky Phillips - released in April 2021.
'Echo' is about the temptations that come along in a relationship, and how easy it is to get carried away with the idea of something new, and to take what you have for granted. The spark of the possible and a break from
the ordinary – the grass often seems greener on the other side.
This single marked the start of Nicky’s recording journey, and what an unusual start it has been. The shared turbulence of the pandemic that has shook all of our lives, but also providing the opportunity to collaborate
with someone on the other side of the ocean. Nicky and Joel (producer) have worked together remotely to capture not only the vulnerability in the song, but also the power behind the conflicting emotions.
lyrics
I can see him, but I can’t see you
You’re too far away and I can hear an echo
Telling me why to wait,
Telling me why to stay,
But I can hear an echo coming from the other way
Telling me to go away,
Telling me to run, to hide, to flee
To go away and leave this all behind
And leave you behind
‘Cause I can hear an echo coming from both sides,
I can hear an echo, but I don’t know why
I can hear an echo coming from both sides
I can hear an echo,
But I can’t decide
I can’t decide.
Well I can hear him, but I can’t hear you
You’re too far away and he comes to me like an echo
Telling me all the things you know I want to hear,
But I can hear an echo coming from the other way
Telling me to stay
To stay with you, to see this through,
I still love you, oh
But, I can hear an echo coming from both sides,
I can hear an echo, but I don’t know why
I can hear an echo coming from both sides
I can hear an echo,
But I can’t decide
I can’t decide.
I try to breathe in, breathe out, it’s too loud
If I stop listening maybe I can drown it out
But nothing seems to stop the sound.
‘Cause I can hear an echo coming from both sides,
I can hear an echo
I can hear an echo coming from both sides,
I can hear an echo
I can hear an echo, an echo, an echo
I can hear an echo, an echo, an echo
I can hear an echo
